The House in the Pines by Ana Reyes
Setting up 3/4 of the story as any typical and believable love triangle plot, the story takes a large twist the last 1/4 of the story. As the readers we are left to weed out what is real and what is not for the honest accounts we know to be facts to each one of them no matter how outlandish it seems.
An example of how everyone has safe people and unsafe people and the reality that people are attracted to the unknown or a the very least tempted with stubborn curiosity with the goal to fill in the gaps of their own stories.
So many small pieces are out of place at the start of the story and as we travel through the pages we see how every experience the characters have later effects others characters and ultimate the plot is unraveled to real a bitter sweet end for all.
I remember reading the house in the Pines synopsis when the book was first published it sounded like a beautiful fantasy almost like a baba Yaga, a beautiful house that you could visit and be safe, but would disappear, possibly when you needed it and disappear when you were done, I was very surprised at the twist and turns of the plot it was not what I expected but I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome anyways
I would give this book 3 stars I enjoyed the plot very much. I thought that the speed at which the characters were introduced was appropriate. I did have trouble, however, understanding when the synopsis and the name of the book, came to play in the story as it took like I said 3/4 of the way through meeting and getting to know these characters and setting up this triangle the social triangle , before we even hear about the cabin and way before anyone sees it I do appreciate how many red flags that the girls saw and continued to push through anyways because they felt like they were being rude. Definitely teaches us all a lesson. Do not be nice to creepy people, I enjoyed it and would consider it to be a true crime story, but fictional however, we categorize those books.
