A very surreal fantasy a cross between what we know as real life and what would happen if the Fea exist.
Our main character has a loving family and a good relationship with his wife after something tragic and completely unexpected happens tearing his family apart. They learn that the Fea exist and they were closer to their family then they had ever expected.
we are taken through a journey as the family runs for safety as now they are the minority and hunted by many. Adjusting to the new life and what other horrors and trials await the family. It seems when they are given one gift something else is snatched away and turn.
Will the father be able to fight to keep his family safe and will he have to give more than he ever expected to do so…. To be continued in book 2 Avalon.
I gave this book 5 stars I really enjoyed the story and the plot line and I look forward to reading the second book the ending I have to say was an absolute whoa moment for me.
I recommend this book for anyone who likes fantasy dragons, vampires, and secret societies. Not forgetting those who love the triumph of the underdog.
5-star review for Avalaon
I enjoyed the first book Haven very much, at first, I was very confused and unsure of which characters side the author meant for us to favor. Looking back on the story now I see it was a wonderful reader submersion, as the characters are feeling the exact same way in their story. Characters in both Haven and Avalon are explained in a way that roots a small emotional bond between the reader and the character, and this story is not short on suspense and the unavoidable devastation that is part of every life, even when Fae walk the earth.
Haven is very much centered on family and safety with a nice cliff hanger at the end that personally left me feeling intrigued and with so many questions, like if I could interview Owen at that time I totally would have. Definitely spun my head around, and what a strange reaction to the situation Owen had, read it and you will see what I mean, like what is going on and hu? but in a good way.
Dragons, vampires, and many various other species of Fea are presented as survivors sheltering in place from the humans trying to recover and find a way to live their lives out without shame and in turn giving their children freedom.
I really thought the way dragon riding in this story to be more realistic than typical dragon riding tales, however it was a first for me, strapping a boat like shelter on the dragons’ belly and filling using it to transport people and supplies. very well thought out and i appreciate the authors fresh take on the dragons in the world she has created.
Heading into the second book Avalon, Owen is more submerged in the Fae War efforts then maybe even he had intended. This second part to the story is very much focused on more of the confrentation and betrail even within the Fae world. As the reader we are given a small glimpse into the world of the battle born Fae.
The Battleborn history is explained both in the story and in the back on the second book Avalon, explaining that the Battleborn are Fae however they do not wish to associate with natural born fea. In efforts to seperate themselves the battleborn gave other names to their species and chose to live apart from the Haven Fae.
Battleborn Fae were once humans and were turned by the Fae Vampire Queen Beira, during the first Fae war. Personally just from reading it seems as though the Queen feels guilty about creating the Battleborn, in turn they are given more freedom, however trying to work with the other side prooves to be a classic bad idea.
Leading us to another fight for survival for Owen and his family, we are left to see if owen and his wife Tiffany can not only survive physically but if they do will their marrage and family stand come out the other side intacted or will it shatter and through us and the character into even more chaos.
Goodness I hope the author ties things up in book three Hiraeth, my heart is shattered from book two, however I feel like the story hasn't reached it peak point of reader stress.. looking forward to being shocked into silence after reading it hahaha..
Thank you Ceril N. Domace for Gifting me book one and two for reading and reviewing purposes, I look forward to reading and sharing more of your work. Congratulations on book 3 of the Fae Queens Court series.
