The Bartimaeus Trilogy - The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A young boy sold into the life of a magician in training, finds himself in the house of his new master. Quick witted and self motivated “the boy” as names mean so much in this world, find himself jumping into the work of conjuring and demon welding long before anyone thought he was or should be ready for it.
“Our boy” gets himself into plenary of trouble staring out with making an enemy of a well practiced magician, leading to an elaborate attempt to fight back, causing much conflict tension and even death in this magical circle.
Will “the boy” be one of the great magicians, a conspiracy leader, or will he parish like the weak before him.
I very much enjoyed #theamuletofsamarkand #book1 @jonathan.stroud
it is a YA fantasy with plenty of action, puzzling situations, and a moderate level of work building. I very much appreciate it he depth that everything was explained, I neither felt overwhelmed, nor was I grasping for clarity as the information was delivered in the right amounts at just the right times.
I appreciate the social structures through the story, however unfair and uneven they may be, it really opens the door for so many possible conflicts and or outcomes with the social groups.
The delivery if the story was confirming and even playful at times. Providing not only dialogue between characters also including descriptions of each scene as well as internal monologues for the mai characters.
I personally feel the internal monologue of the characters aided heavy in the flow of the story and plot of the first book.
Ending with many possible plot twist, book one delivers action, suspense, and a touch of paranormal fantasy. I can not decide if Bartimaous is a character we wish to see more of, I would say yes but then again he may have a darker side then I’ve realized at this point in book one of this three book tale.
I gave this book 4 stars, I liked the world building, and the overall story and plot, had a great time reading it, its went by so fast. Would have loved to of heard more about “the boys” childhood with his tutors, daily things, and his thoughts in all that is happening.
Overall a great read ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ book 1/3
