The Librarian of Crooked Lane
Review 3 stars
It’s a cute story about a maid turned librarian and a world with magical artists and a painting thief. Another change in careers thanks to chance and we are in a detective story.
Post war relationships and a community still coming back from having so many returned and so many lost, still finding its balance as a society.
I just wasn’t able to get into the story as much as I wish, not enough character building makes it hard to be emotionally invested in the stories players. Altercations within the story happen quickly and with minimal explanation most scenarios are explained post event within conversations almost characters instead of through the actual event itself.
The only thing that stood out to me and kept me wondering thought the story wants anything to do with the painting, magic, or theft.
The only thing I really want to know is what is going on with gauge and ivy and is gauge thinking of leaving ivy for his newly found friend and is that why he’s been pulling her along through the whole story, that is what I want to know and kinda all I cared about by the end.
More plots twist and more connection with the characters is what I was missing from the story.
Still a good historical fiction for those who like a light mystery.
