The Pearl Diver by Jeff Talarigo 4 STARS
Diving over and over some times up to 50 dives a day. Presenting whatever sea food they are able to harvest to buyers.
That has to be hard on the body, that’s some amazing lung capacity.
Miss Fujis work conditions have improved.
The medical work is less centered on pregnancy terminations and male sterilizations turning in the direction of geriatric care, as the patients have aged in the past 19 years since miss Fuji’s arrival
Befriending one of the patients who is not responding to treatment, miss Fiji convinces her friend mr. shirayama to go on a day journey with her.

Extra Info:
I have been reading the pearl diver by Jeff Talarigo , and everyone that I talk to about it seems confused, as was I not knowing what leprosy actually was we thought it was the same thing as the plague, the bubonic plague it is not the same thing.
I’m still curious how a diver contracts leprosy in the story. Now, after a little research, it is a virus that could be spread via airborne the modern current name for the disease is Hansens Disease.
Hope you enjoyed the random information but sometimes when reading books, we just have to know more than what the book is telling us.
What book have you read that encourage you to doing some external re-search?
Info Dump:
The modern name for leprosy is Hansens disease as the disease was officially discovered at 1873 by Gerhard Henson.
Henson’s disease is an airborne virus that attacks the nervous system, causing numbness muscle paralysis, loss of vision, shortening of fingers and toes and the collapse or distortion of the nose.
If diagnosed and treated early, the current treatment recommended by the world health organization is 2 to 3 different antibiotics being used at the same time to avoid the virus becoming immune to anyone anabiotic.
This treatment can go for 2 to 3 years at which time they hope that either the disease has been arrested or completely cured
In 2019, the world health organization reported 200,000 cases 1 in 20 of those cases causing disabilities
In some countries divorce is legal if someone in the marriage is diagnosed with Hansens disease
Not everyone can afford treatment depending on their location. Causing suffering among patients in current day.
