Across Ancient Sands - Uncovering a Bronze Age journey around the Mediterranean Sea
By Eric Horn
This story takes places “In an unnamed stretch of desert South of Algerias Atlas Mountains”.., Dr. Jade Asher-Reece and Tariq al-Maqqari - Are leading a dig site with the help of a dozen Archaeology students.
They uncover a wall with inscriptions and carvings in many different languages The wall matches a scroll found in a believed to be urn following the travels of a man named Sfas. The author also includes artwork to better visualize what the walls would look like and the carvings the walls contain.

You really get two stories in one with this book one following’s Sfas and his travels, In which’s Sfas is witness and or involved in many historical events. I personally had trouble following the translations of the scroll but this could be a gap in my knowledge base of the history being shared. It felt a little bit like reading Genesis in the Bible a lot of names and references that I think you might need to know about prior or do your own research.
Part of what makes this book so great is the amount of history and references included I would highly recommend this book to any history buff who loves a good archeology story as well. You really do get two stories in one, I did enjoy the drama and the interactions among the students and professors as well as the boss/financier of the operation and his criminal undertones.
I gave this book 3 stars I enjoyed the main story, the people involved in the dig site. I found the story translated from the ancient walls difficult to follow at times. Overall it was a relaxing read, very informative, and lots of descriptiveness throughly the entirety of the story. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes archeology and those who are fascinated with the mysteries in history.
