Opium & Absinthe by Lydia Kang ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
An early look at the use of medical drugs, and the outcome of those who became addicted to them.
A killer is on the loose and many are suspected, but without the support of her family can Tilly find out what really happened to her sister.
With the new release of the book Dracula in our story l, many people believed the tumor of death by a vampire. Digging for the truth Tilly comes way to close to her sister’s killer. Completely altering her own life forever.
I gave this book 4 stars, it was a great mystery, I personally guessed the killer incorrectly at lest 3x, loved the ending didn’t see it coming at all. Great suspense and plot twists, with very little gore.

……. my thoughts while reading ….be aware of Spoilers.
Why is the grandmother so dead set on marring her granddaughters to this man, he is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, he hits but puts on a good public shoe it sounds like.
If the girls are heiresses why are they not picking their husbands?
Doesn’t add up so much.
That’s is so scary drugging her without her consent because she’s upset - almost like they use morphine as a punishment for non compliant women
Just the way they hold her down and administer it is barbaric.
That doctor is a cold freaky dude.
Wow regular injections of morphine every 4 hours, oh my goodness - that’s is terrifying, poor women and the medical torture they went through - no wonder we still have a stigma around mental health it has a very dark history.
The doctors wife is even telling her morphine is additives and can become a dependency, and the doctor belittled her for it. Grrr…. I have no words!
They are just knocking her out over and over again. Can you imagine being drugged forcefully by the people who are suppose to provide and take care of you? No thanks, a pretty prison sounds fair to say.
I wonder why everyone is ignoring the death of the girl and the young boy.
What is going on with the vampire theory, who started that, and why has no one thought of a doctor for the missing blood.
Wasn’t that a time that blood letting was a thing?
Honestly I am in shock at the amount of unwanted drugs that are being administered to Tilly.
Even knowing she can become dependent on the morphine, and she herself has not consented to receiving the injections.
That’s some dark scary stuff.
Like how often did women die from overdose due to being stubborn or outspoken?
I’ve honestly never thought of that before and it’s a creepy feeling to accept it was once a reality and even accepted as treatment by other women not just men.
Dang Ethan is a gentlemen til the end. Bribing people to get Tilly access to all she needs.
At the same time he is struggling to feed himself and find time to sleep.
Although he has is own battles and financial strains Ethan takes care Tilly when he is around or if she has a need.
Ooh that’s a little sketchy jumping from one sister to the next, I’m feeling the love bombing from here.
Grandma is a little unhinged, she doesn’t see dad about the families loss of her granddaughter, she has more of that’s what she gets attitude.
Did Lucy die vie vampire, grandma, or was she killed for having typhoid?
I may have missed an aspect but goodness grandma is violent.
Umm. I think Toms use of the morphine is a bad influence on Tilly. They are gonna get caught getting high off morphine and dancing.
So scandalous!
Omg he’s a monster, well now we know… I’m surprised he’s still alive.
Why does everyone keep drugging her, so many violent men… I’m stressing - morphine and alcohol poor girl.
Is she waking up in an opium den.. kinda sounds like it.. so scary.
Mrs R - boarding house for woman - detoxing from morphine sent by her family - so they must dispense drugs to outpatients. That would explain the opium den vibes.
So she acts out in grief she gets drugged by her family and the doctor then she gets sent to rehab because of the morphine they forced on her. Twisted
Wonder what happened to Tom?
This doctor is dirt, I guess OSHA didn’t exist then.
WHAT iS TYPHOID AND HOW DID THEY GET IT
Kellies tonic?
Heroin for cough medicine, what?
Oh wow… maybe Tom and the fiancé are in on it together.
He’s cheating with her friend put in the open like they expect her to die.
They aren’t married yet how would that help them get the money to kill her before marrying her?
The orphanage is always a sad topic but at least this one sounds clean and decent.
Oh the nurse Betty is the baby lover, she’s with the babies with small pox.
So was Lucy a thief or not?
I’m confused I have questions..
Those small pox vaccines sound rough.
We took a murder mystery turn, some dark science being tested out, borderline cannibalism.
I’m not convinced Tom doesn’t know.
Oh my I am surprised at the violence all of a sudden, what a double life.
This turned fictional crime real fast, why is she alone everyone left her almost like they planned it.
That was an amazing ending, so many questionable choices made to get there. I’m shocked for sure.
